YOUNG CHILD ATTACKED BY DOGS
February 27, 2017
On February 26, 2017, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the North Mississippi Medical Center – Iuka Hospital in reference to a young male child that had been attacked by a pack of dogs. Deputies arrived at the hospital and spoke with the child’s family and were informed to speak to the neighbor who witnessed the attack. The deputies then went to an area around CR 393 in Burnsville and spoke to the neighbor who informed the deputies he was looking across his yard and saw the pack of dogs attacking the child. The neighbor informed the deputies that he ran across the road to help the young child and noticed as he came up on the child, that the dogs had the child by the neck, arm, and leg. The neighbor then beat the dogs off the child and was able to get the child into a vehicle for the mother and she immediately drove her son to the hospital. Deputies were able, with the help of the neighbor and others, find the pack of dogs and put all the dogs down. The dogs were then carried to a local veterinary clinic where the veterinarian could properly dispose of the animals as per Department of Health regulations. The child was flown to the Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center where he is still being treated for all the injuries that he sustained from the attack.
