SAFETY CHECKPOINT IN BELMONT LEADS TO FELONY ARREST

On April 24, 2017, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department along with the Belmont Police Department were conducting a “Safety Check-Point” around the Valley Road and CR 993 area.  A vehicle pulled up to the checkpoint and it was learned that the driver had a suspended driver’s license.  The driver was then arrested for driving without valid license and during the arrest, officers state that the driver attempted to “throw” a canister that contained allegedly several Oxycodone pills.  Oxycodone is now a Schedule II Narcotic and the driver was then arrested and transported to the Tishomingo County Jail.

JUSTIN DRAKE ELROD, 25-year-old, white male of 49 Valley Road Belmont, Mississippi was officially charged with FELONY POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (OXYCODONE).  ELROD remains in custody at the Tishomingo County Jail awaiting his bond to be set by Justice Court.
