ONE SHOT DURING DOMESTIC SITUATION
On June 29, 2016 at approximately 1227 hours (12:27pm), the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call involving a person being shot at 166 CR 26 Dennis, Mississippi. Deputies arrived on scene where the victim and the shooter were still both on scene. According to the initial investigation, it appears that the shooting involved a DOMESTIC situation between the shooter and the victim. Medical personnel came on scene and transported the victim to a LZ (Landing Zone) where NMMC-Tupelo / Care Flight, air lifted the victim to NMMC-Tupelo Emergency Room.
The victim, JAMES O. SMITH, 40-year-old white male of 166 CR 26 Dennis, was shot with a .20-gauge shotgun that was recovered at the scene. Due to this incident being a DOMESTIC situation, and also with other witnesses that were present at the time of the shooting, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department did not arrest anyone for the shooting of SMITH, however, the investigation will be conducted and the case will be presented to the next available Grand Jury in Tishomingo County for their consideration.
